【 很 - very】

【很】hěnhěn is a very common character in daily language. It basically means "very" to express the extent of a feeling. It can be used before an adjective or some special verbs.

(1) Noun + 很 + Adjective.

他高tā hěn gāotā_hěn_gāo He is very tall.

(2) 很 + Adjective1 + 很 + Adjective2. Sometimes, 很 can be used in a duplicated way, it is like "very big and very tall". But In Chinese, no "and" is needed to link them.

他 He is very, very tall.

包子好吃 Bun is very warm and delicious.

(3) Noun + 很 + Verb for some special verbs only.

妈妈爱我 Mom loves me very much.

【Grammar: phrase as predicative】In (2) and (3), the predicative is not ONE adjective, it is actually a phrase which is a combination of several vocabularies. In Chinese grammar, a phrase can serve a predicative. This is similar to English. For example, "He is talking and laughing".
